VOLUNTEERS
"I doubt if you will ever find a more rewarding experience
than spending time in Laikipia, or further north in Samburu with
the Mobile Field Teams. The colourful, friendly, people that you
will meet, contrast sharply with the problems faced by these people,
set against a most beautiful environment" Conrad Chilvers
(Volunteer)
The
Community Health Africa Trust and the Nomadic Communities Trust
welcome volunteers who can offer specific skills to the organisation.
Unfortunately CHAT/NCT is not in a financial position to cover
the cost of maintaining volunteers on site. However, the costs
incurred during the stay of a volunteer will be minimal and are
designed to ensure that basic expenses are not carried by the
organisation. Please be advised that whilst volunteering for CHAT/NCT
is bound to be a life changing experience, life in rural Kenya
can present significant challenges to the uninitiated. Volunteers
are advised to be well-informed of these challenges before agreeing
to support the Community Health Africa Trust and The Nomadic Communities
Trust. Volunteers for CHAT/NCT are sourced through the Zimbabwean
based organisation African Encounter, which is the parent company
of African Impact. For further information please visit www.africanimpact.com

DONATIONS AND FUNDING
|

|
CHAT/NCT
work closely with the Kenyan Ministry of Health. However,
the Government is currently not in a position to fully support
or absorb these programmes. For this reason CHAT/NCT are
strongly dependent in the short-term on institutional grants
and private donor contributions. The NCT and CHAT Trusts
are legitimately separate. Funding for these community-based
organisations is sourced independently.
The Community Health Africa Trust receives some funding
from the Mpala Wildlife Foundation. However, to date the
major source of funding for CHAT has been supplied by PEPFAR
through USAID into the APHIA 11 Rift Valley Provincial Fund
(This fund comprises a consortium of NGO's that oversees
the distribution of these funds to Community Based organisations).
|
|
The Community Health Africa Trust's main partner within this consortium
is Family Health International (FHI). TOWA (A Kenyan Government
DFID initiative) has also provided support for CHAT programmes.
Funding for NCT has been supplied principally by PEPFAR through
CDC/CHF. Other Funding for NCT/CHAT activities has been sourced
through the Global Fund (Round 2), the Tides Foundation (Canada)
and CHAPS. Donations in the past have been received from the Australian
High Commission as well as private contributors.

DIRECT DONATIONS "FRIENDS OF CHAT/NCT"
Without
the generous support of "The Friends of CHAT/NCT" we would
not be able to maintain those initiatives that have already been
implemented. Furthermore we require continued support for a
variety of focused projects and activities such as purchasing a
new vehicle, computers and cell phones. Support is also required
for new ventures that target the expansion of existing health
and education services to the Laikipia and Samburu Regions.
All private donors will immediately be registered as 'Friends
of CHAT/NCT' and will receive regular copies of our newsletter.
As a "Friend of CHAT/NCT" you will be welcome to communicate
with the programme co-ordinator and other personnel about our
projects. Please note that all donations made to CHAT/NCT are
treated as non-refundable Gift Aid Donations.
